Opinion: The number of consumers lining up at the manager's office everyday since last week after they massively sent disconnection notices seem to become a power booster to its decision makers making the consumers feel compelled to be thankful to Akelco's consideration to stagger payments. Heck!
Akelco either needs to revamp its payment policy or kick the policy binded managers with no balls to protect the struggling public. We cannot boast "We heal as one" reasoning if the company only aims to heal themselves. What about the Boracay consumers who are even struggling to feed themselves at this point of the pandemic? Akelco operates in the whole Aklan. Boracay island is one area that is generally dependent on tourism. The island's tourism recovery has not even reached up to 2% at this point in time. How can they demand payment update this December or get disconnected? Dun sa mainland ok lang kasi somehow they're slowly back to life. They have other industries outside tourism. Sa isla paano?
Hindi tayo magpa-yabang na nag consider ang Akelco na hindi naningil for 8 months...kung pag dating ng December, i-demand naman ang full payment. Di pa nakakatayo ang isla economically, nakaluhod pa rin.
Can Akelco be kind enough to let the consumers buy a hamon naman for Christmas than to settle the full payment. Ilang buwan na tayo nag gugulay at nangingisda.
Again, Boracay needs more consideration than anywhere else. Tourism as the island's main industry is still struggling. 2% recovery based on tourist arrival is something they should look at.
