What's Due for Boracay

By Gil delos Santos Me in the front yard of our Manocmanoc residence in the early 80s   The values of the past, the community vibe of the past, the original Boracay spirit - these are all memories of the present. The old days are gone. The simplicity of the island life is robbed.  Over-development is the robber of Boracay's original culture, heritage, and living tradition system & practices. Boracay was good before the chinese have known Boracay. How can we be so happy how Boracay turned into a commercial island when most of its natives become less privileged citizens if not outcasts in their own birthed island at the present time?  Boracay, did you think that the political leaders who make decisions whom you voted and adored really helped you? While they have all the luxury of life since their political installation, how long have you tasted the same luxury yourself? Isipin mo! Baka during election time lang. The luxury of enveloped money during campaign period is a ...

Expression, experimentation, expiration: A Mind's Transitional Journey

By Gil delos Santos These 3 Es describe the existence of this account. The first ever facebook that I have created back in 2009 (if I remember it correctly) which featured career life and world travels have reached its time when I decided to take it down last year after the pandemic struck. This current account seems to be on that same pathway or fate after reactions surface on the expressions that I have shared, and on the experimentations that I have put in line. Expiration looks inevitable.  I might however change mind...which we know as the only constant matter on earth.  Aside from it, ...

Local Lens: Why No To Bida Gocc

By Gil delos Santos Respect to our native Boracaynon's right to be consulted was missed by the authors of the BIDA GOCC (Boracay Island Development Authority - Government Owned and Controlled Corporation). We view this as a sign of disrespect to the community who steward and look after the island decades after decades since the time of our forefathers.  If they can't knock our door before entering or without our acknowledgment, we consider them intruders. If our peace is intruded, we could be compromised. This scenario won't be allowed in Boracay.  We just hope that our government leaders recognize and respect the authenticity of our lineage's existence in Boracay.  There is the ATI community who is recognized as the only IP group in the island. We also co-exist with them eversince. We believe to have equal rights with them in as far as the right for peace and human welfare are concerned in the same land they dwell in. It is only that other Boracaynons are n...
