Pandemic Lens: Minding Positivity

By: Gil delos Santos

A random account on everydaylife affecting the new normal mindset from a flexible mind swinging along with the fluidity of the universe.

On public expression.

Pinoys are known funloving people, yet complaintive people too. Balance is great, however “complain” is not a good weight to the opposite side of the scale, “proactive measure” is. We just don't make fun and laugh all day without fixing the situation. We mostly resort to social media if something is at fault, become sarcastic then laugh it off. At the end of the day, nothing is resolved as we lack action to deliver lawful results. There are situations beyond our control but we have the power to control how we respond to the situation. Complaining is not resolving. It is a mere display of displeasure. If appropriate efforts to address the concern is done but couldn't get a compromise, your complain becomes a valid presentation of a public issue to raise awareness so everyone could get involved to resolve it.

On lockdowns.

Many have wished for less tourism in Boracay when the island was on its peak. There was a universal clamor for the old, quiet and serene Boracay. The pandemic was generous to answer those wishes; beach all for yourself, literally quiet and empty island. However, in the middle of silence, there is a screaming desire for the old tourist-craze Boracay to come back.

We can we just learn to appreciate what's in front of us momentarily. It is a once in a lifetime experience. Patience is a virtue, resilience is a skill. However this does not excuse creation of more appropriate guidelines to make life in the island a bit more livable. People have individual power to make life that is good for them but local executives are elected to execute higher power to make life a bit better for people in general.

On physical health.

The greatest investment for pandemic is self-discipline. Take time to listen and read your body. Respond to it the same way how you should read emails, how you should acknowledge, and how you should respond to communications properly. Maintaining a sound immune system is maintaining a great deal of diligence.

On mental health.

Issues on mental health have not surfaced on a bigger extent until the pandemic came to exist. The circumstances that exhaust are manmade if we over commit or under commit. The balance is found in the middle.

I learn to withdraw and cut excess baggage that is taking part in wearing me down. I thought that I couldn't be the best of myself for others if I am not whole myself. Self caring is not letting something give extra weight on our shoulder. I never disconnect it all however in order to get rid of challenges. Little battles are necessary to keep my sanity, but I'm a bit choosy on this part lately. I can delay to deliver my life's purpose – only when I'm ready. I dictate my pace, not my peers. Not being desperate for belongingness status is key for a stable mind. Respect all, fear none.

On opportunities.

I've said this before: I choose to explore, attract, create, grab, own. How opportunities come your way?

Challenges create opportunities. Opportunities emerge in the middle of a crisis. Key is life skills to spot and or create them. The career pathway I chose to walk on to offers the idea that the formula works. The delivery of results in the workplace is a success within the bounds of the set objectives. That's how success is measured and defined. The problem is if we're uncertain what goals we have for work. There's opportunity to figure that out everyday. Go grow!

On life learnings.

Life in its simplest form is the best learning. Frugality didn't have a meaning before, until the pandemic cut all the life conveniences. Fortune is a choice. I am fortunate enough to choose a flexible mind and an adaptive hearth. We've experienced to live like a rockstar before. Now, we're surviving the rock bottom...in five star rating. Lol

Time possess all the power in the world. No one is invincible in time, we realize that now. No wealth and material possessions can save extravagance and arrogance when summoned by its own time. In that sense, everyone is even up. Be wise to value how to consume time coz when it is your time, nothing will matter between how much you have and how much you suffer...but how good you have been – grounded by integrity and service.

WALKING THE IGBARAS CIRCUIT FOR 3-DAYS + 1

By Gil delos Santos IGBARAS is a third class municipality in the South-western part of Iloilo province known to be one of the hiker's favorite destinations as they are blessed with waterfalls, caves, climbing rocks, beautiful mountain ridges which the popular Mount Napulak belongs to, and locals with notable genuine hospitality. We initiated the hike from Barangay Igcabugao which we had to pass through a community of mountain residents as we ascend to our first Mountain, Napulak. I had absorbed a good load of happy innocent vibe connecting to the children before starting the proper mountain journey. These kids have physically grown from the time I last saw them in my previous visits. At the same time, the reconnection naturally streamed down and effortlessly grown too. That's a good "pabaon" - their innocent smiles and timid but genuine thank you for the little present I have for them. Getting to Mount Napulak once again is a mix of happy and little concer...

Be free

Be free Self-betrayal is imprisoning ourself in the cells of envy believing that we are hell special to deserve the world's importance by seeking validation from recruited flying monkeys than be accountable to our misery brought by wrong decisions.  Be our own source of happiness. No one's responsible for it but ourselves. Give no scapegoats. No one is perfect but we can be perfect with intentions to let go and let be with no ssshht. Public proud appearances could  be a reverse happy projection by a sad inner self. Seeking validation is an abyss for an unreachable self discontent. Be truthful with our own truth and give no blame to others for our own missed target.  Rest restless souls. Don't let our silence speak misery. Hope we find peace in our quiet solace.

Local's Perspective on The Proposed Boracay Bridge

By: Gil delos Santos WHAT HOPE IS LEFT FOR BORACAY? Boracay is its people. Boracay is its community. Boracay is its natural treasures. It's dark how the future of sustainability and community for Boracay look like. Let's be part of the light for hope.  THEN As a kid born and raised in Manocmanoc, the Manocmanoc Beach was our everyday playground. Great memories! The sense of ownership that we have for our playgrounds gives us the privilege of entitlement that we feel it is our home. It was a pride each time to warmly welcome visitors to share our space with them. NOW We feel strangers to our old playgrounds. We cannot access them anymore 40 years later. We have not imagined that it wasn't owned by the community. The provincial government installed a cargo port in the Western side of Manocmanoc Beach preventing the natural sand movements and we lost the sandbar that is being formed every habagat season — which we used to call "Recudo". Recudo is gone forever!!  We a...
